Information about allergies
Viana products and food allergies or intolerances (as of 25.07.03)
Viana does not produce foods specifically for allergy sufferers. Therefore it is very important that you read this information very carefully if you have a known food sensitivity. We regret that we cannot give you more detailed information, whether by telephone or otherwise. Please consult your general practitioner or allergy specialist.
1. Lactose intolerance
At least 15% of the German population suffer from lactose intolerance (no more than 50% of the world’s population tolerate lactose at all). A vast number of foods contain lactose, especially convenience products and sweets. People with lactose suffer such complaints as abdominal cramps and pains, diarrhoea, dizziness, skin problems, headaches, etc.. These occur without warning, making lactose intolerance hard to recognise. Your general practitioner can advise you about the various methods for testing lactose intolerance. All Viana products are lactose-free.
2. Milk protein allergy
An unrecognised allergy to milk protein can cause considerable problems. Typical consequences can be asthma, eczema (neurodermitis), high blood pressure, intestinal diseases such as colitis ulcerosa and Crohn’s disease, diabetes etc. (Many people worldwide cannot tolerate milk and dairy products at all). All Viana products are free of milk protein.
3. Coeliac disease (sprue)
Sufferers of coeliac disease are intolerant of a certain cereal protein (known as prolamin or gluten). This protein is present in many cereals and cereal products. There are many Viana products that contain cereals with gluten. We also process flours, flakes and other cereal products containing gluten / prolamin. For this reason we can only state following products as being safe for coeliac patients: Tempeh 200g EAN 40 19738 0 0100 1, Tofu 300g EAN 40 19738 0 0319 7, ReisActiv 1 Liter EAN 40 19738 0 7111 0, ReisActiv Vanilla 1 Liter EAN 40 19738 0 7121 9, ReisActiv Choco + Calcium EAN 40 19738 0 7151 6. All other Viana products that do not contain wheat protein, gluten, rolled oats, etc. according to the ingredients list may nonetheless contain traces of gluten!
4. Allergies to nuts and seeds
Viana and nuts / seeds: Viana processes nuts and seeds in a number of products, so that traces may be present in products that do not contain nuts or seeds according to the ingredients list. For this reason we can only state following products as being free of any traces of nuts or seeds: Tempeh 200g EAN 40 19738 0 0100 1, Tofu 300g EAN 40 19738 0 0319 7, Räucher Tofu EAN 40 19738 0 0349 4, Seitan 200g EAN 40 19738 0 0200 8, ReisActiv 1 Liter EAN 40 19738 0 7111 0, ReisActiv Vanilla 1 Liter EAN 40 19738 0 7121 9, ReisActiv Choco + Calcium EAN 40 19738 0 7151 6.
5. Yeast allergies
In the case of yeast allergies or insensitivities, minor traces are generally harmless, so that we believe that you can enjoy our products that do not contain yeast in the ingredients list. Please consult your general practitioner or allergy specialist if you are unsure. Viana processes yeast in a number of products, so that traces may be present in products that do not contain yeast according to the ingredients list. If you want to make sure that a product contains no yeast whatsoever, we recommend the following products: Tempeh 200g EAN 40 19738 0 0100 1, Tofu 300g EAN 40 19738 0 0319 7, ReisActiv 1 Liter EAN 40 19738 0 7111 0, ReisActiv Vanilla 1 Liter EAN 40 19738 0 7121 9, ReisActiv Choco + Calcium EAN 40 19738 0 7151 6. There are many other Viana products that do not contain yeast, which you can see by referring to the ingredients list. Most of the Viana Sound spreads are for instance yeast-free. Yeast in Viana products is always listed as such and not hidden in general terms such as »spices«.
6. Other food insensitivities
If you have other food insensitivities, please always consult you general practitioner or allergy specialist first. There are companies who produce special foods for allergy sufferers, which you should contact. If you should have a rare food sensitivity or allergy, we regret that we cannot give you any binding assurances, whether by telephone or otherwise, that a specific spice or substance is definitely contained in our products or not.
